On a cozy Easter day, while improvising at the piano, Bernd Van Hulle came up with a new harmonisation for the well-known Bach choral O, Haupt voll Blut und Wunden. He notated this harmonisation and started to think about a series of variations for wind quintet. The composer tried to create variations which can be considered as little miniatures on their own. Only in the last variation one can recognise the theme entirely, as well as the harmonisation.
